The new year is a time when many people begin to think about goals and resolutions for the upcoming year. It's a fun time to reflect on life and dream about what the future could look like. Today, I want to share a powerful tool with you that can help you gain clarity for the new year and set you up for success. Whether you've already set goals or not, this exercise can provide valuable insight and direction.

Goals often go unmet for several reasons. Firstly, we may lack a deep enough "why" that truly compels us forward. Without a strong reason behind our goals, it's challenging to stay motivated and committed. Secondly, we may lack a clear vision of how our lives will be impacted once we achieve our goals. Visualizing our future selves and the positive outcomes of our efforts is crucial for maintaining momentum. Finally, we may fail to plan out the actionable steps needed to reach our goals. Without a clear plan of action, we're more likely to fall short of our aspirations.

To address these challenges, I've developed an exercise called Purpose, Vision, and Fundamentals. Here's how it works:

  1. Purpose: Write down your goal or the area of your life you want to focus on at the top of the page. Then, delve deep into why this goal or area is important to you. Ask yourself "why" three times to uncover your deepest motivations.

  2. Vision: Visualize your future self once you've achieved your goal or improved in the chosen area of your life. Ask yourself questions about how you'll feel, who you'll be with, and what your day-to-day life will look like. Envisioning your desired future self provides clarity and motivation.

  3. Fundamentals: Identify the actionable steps or habits you need to consistently practice to move closer to your goal or ideal self. These could include daily routines, weekly practices, or specific actions.

Once you've completed these sections, make it a habit to review your Purpose, Vision, and Fundamentals regularly. This consistent review will keep you focused and motivated, ensuring you stay on track towards your goals.

I encourage you to try this exercise for all the major areas of your life that you want to improve in the new year. Whether it's health, finances, relationships, or personal development, gaining clarity in each area will set you up for success.
